TRUSTEES REPORT

Rather than risk the life and limbs of volunteers, the Trustees decided to hire Dan Douglas to do the painting of the church. The advantages to this are two-fold: Dan is a licensed contractor with insurance and the equipment and experience to do the job correctly and the rest of us can remain safely on the ground. Muchos gracias for the angel check to cover most of the expense for this. The work is moving along much more quickly than anticipated. Our new retractable screen was in place and ready for kick-off Sunday last week. Work continues with the sprinkler system and the Trustees have identified the parsonage as the next major project that will be undertaken.

Thank you for a great job this year!

Text Box: Around Trinity…
Thank you!
Dear Trinity Friends:
Thank you so much for your very generous donations to my retirement gift. We will probably use it for some “mini getaway” trips which Jim and I love to take. I also appreciated the lovely reception, and especially want to thank Ja net’ Crouse for the delicious homemade cake and Michelle for making the punch. Thank you also for the cards and flowers, and mostly for the wonderful memories I have of working at Trinity.
Thanks again, Judy Terry

Trinity United Methodist Women
The October UMW meeting will be on Tuesday, October 14th. Join us at 1:00 pm for a presentation by the Director of the YWCA, Jenny Pratt, who will outline their programs for assisting women and adolescent youth. Come and learn about their homeless shelter, which provided for about 1900 bed nights for women in 2007, and provided work clothes and skills. She will also discuss their after school programs and “Techgyrls,” a workshop for girls that emphasizes technology, math and science. -Ja net’ Crouse

The UMW will host a Soup Supper on October 19th as a
beginning for their Thanksgiving food drive. Time and
particulars are to be announced. Please join us in this simple meal as we remember those whose lives have not been as
fortunate as ours.

QUOTABLE QUOTES:

E. Stanley Jones told of an experience in the Copenhagen Cathedral.  He was admiring the famous Statue of Jesus by Thorwaldsen.  He was some distance from the figure when a friend told him “You won’t be able to see His face until you kneel at his feet”  Jones knelt at the foot of the statue and it was as he had said.  Jones added, “I knelt at His feet and found His eyes looking into mine.”

Bible Studies of I Samuel

We have begun our study of the Old Testament book of I Samuel, with Wednesday classes meeting at 10:30 AM and 7:00 PM. It is not too late to join a group and explore the scriptures. Several of our new members have commented on how lucky we are at Trinity to have a pastor committed to study of scripture. Come and see what the excitement is about!

Books are available from Pastor Michael.

UMW Harvest Bazaar

Crafters: don’t forget that the Harvest Bazaar is approaching. This annual fundraiser generates money for the support of the mission work sponsored by our own Trinity UMW. Joan Powers has completed a beautiful quilt for the raffle at this year’s Harvest Bazaar. It is on display in the sanctuary and there is plenty of time to purchase tickets...lots of tickets!

The Bazaar will be held November 8th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Items may be purchased during the annual dinner at 5:00-7:00 PM.

Interested in helping with the Bazaar or dinner?  Contact persons will be announced soon.

News from our youth…

Tonya Farr and Rachel Hermes were both present at the September Ad Council meeting on September 9th. We have all heard about (and signed up for) the fundraiser dinner for the Ireland pilgrimage, but were delighted to learn a little more about how our youth are engaging the scripture.

The youth group is beginning a new Bible study called the “Amazing Bible Race.” It is a year-long study with the goal of reading the whole Bible in a year. This involves personal reading and study, an online component and group discussion. There was some discussion about whether to keep up the pace and complete the entire Bible or “travel” the course at a pace that will allow greater depth of exploration. Either way, this is exciting news.

As we say goodbye to summer and vacations and

lazy days (do any of us still have lazy summer days?) and morning coffee on the porch or deck and prepare for the transition into fall and winter, we have a lot to be thankful for…

Punkin Chuckin is Coming November 1st!

Is there anyone who can take on the infamous Danny Douglas Destroyer? Are there any closet medieval mechanics among you? Have a friend that might be able to band together a group and create a team and make this a contest?

Trinity UMC welcomes makers of catapults and trebuchets, large and small, to join us for hotdogs and cider and flying pumpkins (and other

projectile fruits and vegetables) at 2:00 PM until we are done. All Are Welcome! Great fun shall be had by all! Join us and laugh a little or a lot.
