History of Trinity United Methodist Church

Since it’s hopeful first gathering in the living room of Lew and Alice Clark, Trinity United Methodist Church has been dedicated to the ministry of outreach, reconciliation, discipleship, leadership and love. God has consistently challenged us to be a leading witness to the gospel and this began in a unique way.

In 1952, our area had a burst of growth, with the start of the Alcoa Works and a healthy economy. The District Superintendent saw a need to plan and began to organize for a new church.

In 1955, the Reverend Miss Ruth Lortz was appointed to organize a Methodist congregation in East Wenatchee. She would have been among the first women ordained in the church! Since that time Trinity has always been a diverse body of believers living the challenges of our faith.

Rev. Lortz and Deaconess Lucile Sprengle came to our area to survey and call door-to-door. An organizational meeting was held in October of 1955 and meetings began at the home of Lew and Alice Clark. Services eventually moved to the elementary and high schools.

A five acre parcel was found on a barren hill that had a barn and horse corrals. There were no utilities – just a wonderful view and a dream of a church building. 1n 1956, the barn burned during the night and plans for using it as a temporary meeting place died. However, with the insurance money and loans, the land was paid for. Money was borrowed to build a parsonage with a basement chapel. In 1964, our present sanctuary was built. Trinity today is an active church, serving the youngest to our seniors.

As we celebrate over 50 years of ministry, we give thanks to God for his faithfulness and we look forward to the challenges that will come our way in the days and years to come, even as we seek the promise of God’s eternal faithfulness.
